Flashback Friday – Gerardo - "Rico Suave"

Last week we went down memory lane with MC Hammer.

I remembered this song after walking in Rome with my friend Sara and noticing that a model in an Armani ad looked a little “Rico Suave”.

Like “Can’t Touch This” this wonderful song was also a hit in 1990. This led to me to ask, “What the heck was going on in 1990?” This song and video are beyond cheesy.

I read that 90s fashions are come back. I pray that is not true. I wasn’t a fan of those gets up the first time around.

Enjoy and have a great weekend.

There is seriously nothing I DON'T like about this video....it's priceless and so funny. The dancing in the sunset, the crazy, ratted-out hair, his doo-rag and extensions, the pelvic thrusting, the high-cut bikinis, the Z Cavaricci's!

Ah, good fun.

Hahaha!! Love the cheese!! For me the best line is "Would you rather have me lie take a piece of your pie and say bye or be honest and rub your thighs" WTF???
When the song first came out I asked one of my Hispanic co-workers what "Rico Suave" actually meant and he translated it as "Smooth and.... appetizing!" Too funny!!

(meaning, the 90s are HOT here! I'm just glad Argentina finally left the 80s.)

Yep they are coming back. I have been seeing bits and pieces of that fashion look in the street. Maybe its because all we can afford is second hand now, so thats whats in the Salvation Army. I see it with the kids, students types.

I hate to say this..but you can still see Gerardo look alike in Rome. I guess the tight jeans and the open shirt never go out of style in my country!

I was only 5 when this song came out, but I still know it. How sad is that?

tina - I'm scared.

glamah16 - I refuse to wear grunge again.

gibber - I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

charlie - I remember Marc Jacobs did a show feature grunge. There was something wrong about paying hundreds of dollars to look like a bum.

petulia - ha. I saw a lot of that look in Naples.

nwy - you're welcome.

nicole - I have one question regarding the comeback...Why? I thought he was a successful A&R exec now. Thanks for the link. I have to read it.

moi - I had the song in my head all weekend. This was not a good thing. ha
