randomissimo - Can someone explain this Matthew McConaughey ad?

I heard this cologne smells very nice. Is Dolce & Gabbana not aware of Malibu Matthew's rep? I can't picture him wearing cologne at all.

This ad is on here all the time.

I get the beginning but at the end when it switches to color? I like the music and the look of the ad. I think Matthew is all wrong for it. I used to think he was talented and v. good looking circa "Dazed and Confused" and "A Time to Kill". What happened? Maybe he has done too many "himbo" roles?

I think D&G just wanted to see him with his shirt off!

I agree that he's all wrong for it...every time I see it, I wonder why him?

I agree - but does it even matter? Holy hot, Batman. The gay mafia and I would pause our card games every time it came on the TV.

I saw this ad last spring at a Duty Free Trade show. My first instict was why him, he's known for his BO! Maybe the scent is strong enough to cover up his natural odor. I too wonder what happened to him. Maybe to much naked bongo playing and strange weed. Plus didn't he have a baby last year?

Who needs to explain anything! Wawaweewa! He's still hot!

Oh my goodness. Anything with Matthew McConaughey in it does not need to be explained to me. Heh. ;-)

joanne - hmm, he is known for being shirtless as much as possible. Personally I think D&G should have asked Clive Owen or Javier Bardem. We all know Denzel refuses to take off his shirt even in movies so that conversation would've been non-starter.

kc - exactly.

missexpatria - ha. I feel nothing when I see him on the couch. He's no P. F. Cassini. (I'm kidding, kinda)

glamah16 - Hello! That's what I'm screaming. Why would you put a man know for his strong "natural scents" in a fancy cologne ad?

gibber - sorry sis, you and I are usually in agreement about the "menz" (shocking given the big age difference) but I don't get the appeal.

c.a. marks - haha!

When do you actually see Matthew with a shirt on? hmmmmm?
Now that would be a commerical to watch!
He does zippo for me; I prefer the dark and exotic types. ;-)

ms. violetta - same here. Of course there are exceptions like Daniel Craig.

He's attractive and has a great body and they get to see him half naked. That is all. I don't think D&G looked any deeper than that.

Totally miscast! Every time I see him I just think of somebody who probably smells like old sweat. He's got nice muscles but it's nothing special. I see that type of body when I'm at the park or the gym.

sdg1844 - I agree with you about the half naked thing.

los angelista - Yes L.A. is full men who will use any excuse to take off their shirts. I really don't like men with totally waxed chests. Too metro for me.

Hee hee! The dude NEVER has a shirt on. And apparently in one of his new films, he doesn't wear one the entire time he's on screen!!!

You should read this Lainey post about McConaughey. And the Matt Damon clip is too funny! http://www.laineygossip.com/Matthew_McConaughey_ad_for_Dolce_and_Gabbana_.aspx?IsMicro=0

You know, I don't get Matthew McConaughey, period.

Puhlease...

milanese - haha. That post was priceless.

jen - the ending of the ad makes no sense. why is he smiling at the end as the paps photograph him, inside his room?

Anonymous said...

He's smiling at the end, because he finally has his shirt off. You know that is how he is most comfortable.

But seriously, wouldn't someone more dark or debonair be much better here? Like J. Phoenix, or George Clooney - someone, I don't know, more classy?

nwy - ha.

I don't get the casting and the ad is on here all the time.
