Flashback Friday - Corinne Bailey Rae - "Put Your Records On"

Last week we "made it night to remember" with Shalamar. I notice most of these Flashbacks are from the early 80s. Here is something a little more current.

As I get ready for my big move I was reminded of this song.

Spring of 2006 I rented an apartment in Trastevere for a three weeks. It was my second trip to Rome in 12 months and pretty much sealed the deal.

This song and video from British singer Corinne Bailey Rae was HUGE in Italy that spring. I heard the song everywhere and the video was on MTV Italia all the time. I came back the States and around six months later the song hit.

This video says "Spring" to me. Enjoy.

Hah! Yeah, last time I was over (summer 06), this song was still all over. Nobody can play a song to death like the Italians... ;-)

Glad you liked the article. Gomorra was the first novel I read in Italian. I also read (most of ) the translation, and it's very good. He does have that staccato style in his native tongue. I do very much recommend the book in the original but be forewarned... dude swallowed an archaic Italian dictionary early in life.

Best, best of luck with the move. I'll be following you over there, prolly in June. Go expats!

The first time I went to Rome was March 2006,we stayed about 10 days. That was the best trip I ever took, and you're right that song was playing on MTV all the time. That was the only channel in my hotel room that I could understand, although it was a weird English/German combination of programming! This song and several others will always take me back to that trip!

I adore Corrine Bailey Rae. Shes not to over exposed here. I wish MTV here would play more music videos rather than all those shows.

What a cheerful tune. Makes me want to take a bike ride on a country road.

Btw, I joined in the Flashback Friday festivities. :)

Glad you checked out Paolo's article. I was impressed by his translation, and relieved, 'cuz my Italian's not that great, yet.

It's more of a summery tune to me rather than a springy one. Nice song. Buon weekend.

I so love this song, and her whole album! My son and I have had a great time singing and dancing to this one. She's amazing.

paolaccio - thanks, good luck with your move as well. At my Italian school there are 6 students (out of 14) moving to Italy within the next 3 months.

I think it will be a while before I could tackle that novel in Italian. It takes me forever just to read an article in Corriere della Sera.

Anon - Seriously, everytime I turned on the TV that song was playing. Then I took the train down to Positano and heard it in all the cafes.

glamah16 - I agreed. I think they only play videos in the morning. My gym always has one of the monitors on MTV. I prefer VH1 classics (cause I'm old. ha)

mental mosaic - I find newspaper articles esp. hard to follow. Hopefully once I live there my language skills will get stronger.

delina - ha. To me summer is too freaking hot to be on a bicycle. :)

los angelista - It is so nice out I have all my window open and can smell my neighbor's jasmine.

jen - She does have a beautiful voice.

We need this song to warm things up a bit over here. Yesterday we had a full on snow blizzard and today it's high winds and sleet. So much for Spring time in Italy! Roll on Summer.
